Note: | In 2012, the processing of birth statistics changed: while until 2011 the number of births included also children born abroad to mothers with permanent residence in the Slovak Republic (SR), since 2012 the birth statistics have included children born in the SR only, and the number of the SR population has included only those foreign-born children who were registered on permanent residence in the SR. | Since 2011, the mid-year population (average) has been calculated as the arithmetic mean of the initial (1 January) and final (31 December) stocks of the population for the reference year. Until 2010, the mid-year population had been calculated by means of the demographic balancing method as the number of population on 1 July of the reference year. The methodological change resulted from the practice in the European area. | Natural increase (persons) – the number of live births - the number of deaths. | Immigrants on permanent residence / Emigrants from permanent residence – persons regardless of citizenship who have changed the municipality (or city part in Bratislava and Košice) of permanent residence within the territory of the Slovak Republic (i.e. internal migration) or who have changed the country of permanent residence (i.e. international migration). | Net migration (persons) – the number of immigrants - the number of emigrants. | Total increase of population (persons) – natural increase + net migration. | Live births (persons) – A live-born child is a child showing at least one of the following signs of life at birth such as breathing, beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, active movement of muscles though the umbilical cord has not been cut or the placenta has not been born. At the same time, the birth weight is a) 500 and more grams or b) 499 grams and less if a child survives 24hours after its birth. |
